The Mac book Air is believed to have been the first ultra books to be manufactured; subsequently, leading brands such as Acer, Dell, Hp, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba Launched their versions either late last year or this year.Sales have been so high that Time magazine recently deemed 2012 as’the year of ultra books.

So What exactly is an ultra book?

According to Intel, an ultra book should be less than 21 millimeters in height; able to start up within seconds;security enabled;powered by an Intel core processor and equipped with a battery life ranging between five and eight hours
There are few factor to consider if you are thinking of buying an ultra book especially given that they range between Rs 85,000-150,000.

Remember, the whole point of Ultra book is sleek portability. So If you get anything bigger than 13 inches you might as well buy a regular laptop. Most ultra books will have a fast (and thin) Solid State Drive(SSD); make sure you chose a model that has an SSD with at least 128 GB of space.

After that it’s just a matter of  the processor speed, RAM, quality of display and battery life.To test the display, watch the same HD movie under the same lighting conditions on various brands. And don’t forgot to compare the specs offered by various brands to get the best deal.

Last but not least make sure you get an ultra book with at least two to three USB ports . This is important because ultra books usually do not have DVD/CD drives. If you want to watch a movie or store data on external hard drives you will need multiple USB ports.
